~ My IELTS Experience ~

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

For all TPM UiTM holders we are compulsory to take IELTS test and should get at least band 5 (local University) and 6.5 (oversea).

So let me share with you my experience in taking this exam.

First and for most i register with  British Council for the test date. You are advise to book exam date at least 2 week before because BC will close their admission application 1 week before the test date. The admission fee is RM570... To register you may download the form from BC website and hand it over by hand to the BC centre. Here the BC location in Kuala Lumpur

So a week before the test date, i received a letter from BC together with my candidate ID.. Actually i do not have enough time to prepare for the test because of my office workload plus my laziness...heheheh.. Only by that time, i finally realize how close i am with the test date and my preparation is 0 %.. so i started to work hard after office hours,  sat in front of my dearest lappy and do some online exercises plus free online exercise from BC sites given during the registration day... here a few links of online exercises that i done....

On the day of exam (29 Oct 2011)...

I took my listening, reading and writting at Corus Hotel KL near KLCC while my speaking at BC centre (places and speaking given by BC during registration) ...both places close to each other so no need to worry just use your two legs and walk...hehehe... The exam start at 9 a.m but all candidates must register before 8.45 a.m... You can brings your bags and everything but need to left it at the belongings counter after your registration process. you can only bring with you, your I.C (no wallet, phone, or stationary)

  • Listening Test (40 questions-30 minutes)
Hmmm... The sound system was crystal clear...so no need to worried about that.. Just focus...Honestly, right after the listening started, i already lost my focus, so i can't catched up with a few dialog for the first conversation...huhuhu..my bad.... Ok.. Here the listening conversation and question that i can remember..

1. Conversation Between A father and A Children Care Centre's staff.
  - Fill in blank space for the registration form
2. Discussion between two student about their research on marine life
 - Fill in the blank for the research questionnaire  sample
 - Given a whales pictures, so need to figure out what types of whales based on  their description... (very tough one.....because for me they look same...hahaha)
3. Conversation about disease caused and carried by insects
 - Fill in the blank disease types and insects that cause the disease
 - Given a picture of mosquito, need to identify the mosquito part based on their conversation
4. Conversation about a great photographer
 - Fill in the blank for photographer profile
 - objective questions

  • Reading Test (40 questions- 60 minutes)
On this section, you really need to know how to extract important points inside each topic, because its a very long text... as for me... i will read the questions first, then read the text once, then read back the questions...there are 3 section in reading test..Here's the question on my test.

First section: A passage about the history of a very successful Home Cleaning Product
Second section: A passage about business area too (i can't remember what the text about)
Third section: Totally forgot...heheheh...sorryyyyyy!!

  • Writting Test ( 2 Question- 60 minutes)
Be careful with  writing test!!! if you divide your time wrongly, you will not be able to finish both question. Spend more time on the second question because its contribute the highest mark. Mostly, first question is more to summary about a statistics, graph, or process diagram. second question is quite tough because its about general knowledge based on the situation or topic given.. here my writing question

First question: Given a process picture on how recycled paper were produced
Second question: Many films and computer games contains violence, some people said they are bad influence and some people said they are just harmless. Discuss both opinion based on your own experience.

  • Speaking Test (11-14 minutes)
My speaking test began at 1.30 p.m. My examiner is an indian lady and a very nice person. First session was an introduction..she asked me about my full name, am i working or still study, Do i like my current job,   What i like the most about my job, Am i an active person, what types of person i am during childhood, am i having a healthy life style, what i do to keep myself healthy....The second session was the cue card.. the examine gave me a card contains a topic that i need to talk.. i've been given 1 minutes to prepare.. my question was 'explain a workplace that you know office/shop/restaurant' ...and the points that i need to talk are : How i know about the place, where the place located, How the place looks like.... then she gives me 2 minutes to talk about it.. so i decided to talk about my current workplace... the third session was the discussion on the selected topic (refer second session)... this is actually two ways communication.. here the question she asked: Why people tend to work far away from their home, How current workers go to work, how the work place location effect the workers performance... during the discussion she can interrupt with a few more question if she feel curious with my answer.

My exam ended at 1.50 p.m.....

Wahhhhhhh....such a long entry....Its just my experience... so good luck for those who taking IELTS pretty soon.....InsyaALLAH (With ALLAH's will) you can do it!!!.... (~_~)v

*Just receive my IELTS result...Alhamdulillah (Praise be to ALLAH)
